Jaxon’s Newborn Shots

My return to designing is right around the corner!  I’ve been getting lots of new project requests in while I’ve been out, so I’m now booking for September!  If you’re interested in grabbing one of these spots, please get in touch!

This week has been filled with lots of fun – interviewing potential mother’s helpers and ordering Jaxon’s newborn portraits.  Charity is a dear friend of mine who gave us the wonderful gift of a photo shoot right in our home.  She did Wade’s newborn photos two years ago and it was such a blessing to repeat the process with my newest little addition.  Feast your eyes on my cutie!

Meet Jaxon

jaxonHe’s here!  My third little nugget has arrived.  Meet Jaxon.  It’s hard to believe he was born nearly two weeks ago.  This new little guy is so laid back and easy.  If he were my first, I’d think this motherhood gig was a breeze!  I’m hearing from friends that their third babies are so different from the first two as well – must be special third child trait.  I managed to snap this little gem of a photo this morning, but a fabulous photographer friend did a couple of newborn sessions with us and I hope to share some more Jaxon-goodness with everyone soon (with professional pictures!).

I’ve slowly begun to start working again in small spurts, but I totally plan to take things easy for the next few weeks.  In the meantime, I’ll be accepting new projects to start in June and July.  If you’re interested in grabbing one of those spots, please take the time to fill out my new project request form and I’ll get back to you with a quote for your custom project!

A Funky New Look For Spring

I’ve decided to show off my funky side with a new look for spring! I figured it would be a great way to celebrate reopening my queue for a limited number of spots in June and August. Are you ready for a new look too? Mosey on over and fill out a new project request to get started!

What is SOPA/PIPA and what does it mean for you?

I usually don’t get political on here, but I feel like I would be doing my clients a disservice if I didn’t mention this.  Some of you may already know, but I want to make sure!  The Stop Online Piracy Act (HR 3261) or the Protect IP Act (S 968) could be the end of the Internet as we know it. These bills are currently being considered by our Senate and Congress, and those of us that use the internet to make our living (or even as a hobby) need to stop this from passing.

On the surface, SOPA/PIPA simply seems like a protection for the entertainment industry to insure that internet piracy doesn’t put big productions and musicians out of business. I’m for that. What I’m not for is limiting free speech and completely undermining the internet’s working system in the process. When it comes down to it, the guys who rip off copyrighted material for their own gain know how to go around measures like this – and they will. These bills won’t end internet piracy, but it could shut you – dedicated mom blogger or creative etsy shop owner – down and land you in jail. That cute video of your adorable kid dancing to the latest GaGa? Yea, don’t post that online. You could get 5 years in prison for copyright infringement.

Sites like facebook, google, and pinterest, will essentially be shut down because there’s no way they could effectively filter their user’s content. There would be no more social networking.  Don’t believe me?  You need to see this infographic at americancensorship.org.  Even WordPress is condemning the possibility of this bill’s passing.  For a great breakdown of what this bill entails and how it will affect you, check out this video. I know what you’re thinking – “This is terrible!”  Right?  Well, let’s do something to stop this from happening.  Let’s get involved:

  • Blackout your blog/site/facebook/twitter/google+/etc on January 18 in protest.  You’ll be joining thousands of other sites, including big names like Mozilla, Reddit, and TwitPic.  Make sure you add your site to the list at sopastrike.com.
  • If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog/site, there’s a plugin for that:  Simple Stop SOPA.  This plugin will censor your site on January 18th in protest of SOPA and PIPA.
  • If you have a Blogger blog, consider skipping the day and simply post a “censored” image instead of your regularly scheduled post.

.

  • If you’re feeling extra patriotic, check out SOPA Opera to see if your congressperson supports or opposes the bill and then contact your representatives and let them know what you think about this violation of your first amendment rights.  I’ve contacted mine several times through email and I can always count on a response.
  • Die-hard Firefox user like me?  Mozilla has an add-on that will let you know which websites support SOPA.  This could be helpful in boycotting these sites until we know this bill won’t pass.
  • Spread the news!  Tell everyone you know about this bill.  Knowledge is power.  And if enough of us make a stink about this, there’s no way our lawmakers can pass it with a straight face.

I hope you will join me in protecting the internet. Let me know what you’re doing to get involved! I’d love to check it out!

New Website & Queue Opened

Well, hello there. Welcome to the new streamlined shaybocks.com. Thanks to some awesome clients, my business has grown more than I could have ever expected. I have enjoyed working with so many ladies to put their visions into unique blog and logo designs. As much as I would love to, I have come to the point where I can no longer accept every project that comes my way. With new pricing and a spankin’ new Project Request form, I will be able to take on only those projects that best match up with my style and abilities.

Have a look around and let me know what you think. I am now accepting new projects for November and December, so let me know what you need!

It feels good to be back

Wade Lee Bocks  |  born on March 25, 2011 at 8:44am  |  9 pounds and 20.5 inches long

Well, after two months of maternity leave, I’m finally back to work.  I’ve actually been easing back into things over the past couple of weeks, but I’m finally ready to make it official.  Our son, Wade, was born on March 25 and weighed in at 9 pounds!  It turned out to be a crazy labor and delivery story.  Life back at home with a newborn and a toddler is absolutely chaotic, so I’m very thankful for my patient clients who have stuck in there with me while I get things back on track.

My design queue is now open and ready for new orders.  I’ve updated my pricing, but now all repeat clients will receive a 20% discount.  I also finally set up a facebook page for DDS and I updated my portfolio.  I’ve got some exciting things coming up and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!  For now, I’ll leave with you with some more Wade yumminess…
